Asus Eee PC 1201PN review, specs and price

Asus Eee PC 1201PNThe Asus 1201PN model name is quite similar to Asus Eee PC 1201N and this particular model comes with a single-core N450 Atom and next-generation ION without Nvidia Optimus technology.
Eee PC 1201PN comes with 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450, 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM Memory, Nvidia Next-Generation Ion (512MB), 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive, 802.11n, HDMI port, 0.3MP webcam, Digital microphone, a 6-cell 63Wh Li-Ion battery, and Windows 7 Home Premium. For connectivity there is Wi-Fi wireless (in 802.11b/g/n flavors), an Ethernet jack, and a Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR radio. Apart from the standard netbook ports and connectors (VGA, three USB, a three-format flash-card slot, headphone and mic jacks, an Ethernet jack, and a lock slot).

The Eee PC 1201PN is also equipped with NVIDIA Optimus technology, which rises the NVIDIA graphics processing unit to high levels of graphics performance when called for and switches to more battery power-saving modes the rest of the time.

The display of the Asus PC 1201PN is 12.1 inches big and has a resolution of 1,366×768 pixels. This is also the standard resolution in 13 and 14 inch notebooks. Videos and images are crisp and bright, just like Eee PC 1201N. The speakers are located on the bottom edge and are louder than what you get on standard Netbooks. I would recommend it for listening to music but movies are just fine. The Netbook has a six cell battery and this battery juice is about 40 minutes more than the previous Asus Netbook that we reviewed.

Opening the lid reveals the screen and keyboard bezels, as well as roomy palm rests, coated in the same glossy black plastic. The matte-black, Chiclet-style keys rest in a glossy, plastic keybed that flexes a little more than we’d like during typing. The left side of the 1201PN houses a VGA port, tiny AC adapter jack, HDMI output, and a USB port. You also find two more USB ports, an SD Card slot, headphone and mic jacks, an Ethernet port, and a Kensington Lock slot on the right.

The ASUS 1201PN, however, only has a single-core Atom N450 CPU to go with its Ion GPU, a combination that results in general performance that’s weaker than its same-priced predecessor. The fact that both CPU and graphics performance seemed to take a dip since the January debut of the Asus Eee PC 1201N is the least forgivable part. To be front-running with next-gen technology, there at least need to be significant improvements. It costs $499
