HP just announced an education-focused Mini netbook designed, HP Mini 100e Netbook. This HP 100e designed to help schools around the world acquire affordable, reliable computing technology. The HP Mini 100e laptop will be competing with the Intel Classmate Series (the Classmate PC E10 (price $399) and the Classmate PC NL2 Convertible ($499) – reference designs) in the “notebook for kids” category.

The HP Mini 100e features the Intel Atom N455 processor with GMA HD integrated graphics, Intel NM10 Express chipset, 1GB of DDR3 memory expandable to 2GB, a VGA webcam, 160GB of hard disk space, a 3- or 6-cell battery, Windows XP Home, Windows 7 Starter or SuSE Linux operating systems and an optional external DVD writer.
