Lenovo just announced plan to push out an Android tablet in China by the end of 2010, with the name is Lenovo LePad. Tablet PC will use the Google Android operating system. The LePad is a ressurrection of the IdeaPad U1 Hybrid Skylight, but without the keyboard dock that adds also laptop internals, hence the hybrid part of the name.

Lenovo LePad will be the first of multiple mobile internet devices that its maker plans to supply the Chinese market with. Seeing how said market is on the rise, it makes sense that the PC maker would cater to its needs. Lenovo already has a phone, the LePhone, which runs on Android, and it plans to leverage the experience it has with that device in creating the new tablet. With its LePhone smartphone, the company is planning to work on building marketshare in China before it brings the device to other markets. Details on the so-called Lenovo LePad are scarce, beyond the fact that it will support email and browsing and likely include 3G connectivity, Android platform, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 10 inch multi touch display screen.

The versatile Android platform is becoming a popular choice for hardware manufacturers, because it costs nothing to license and there is a very large group of developers who are already actively creating apps for it. Everything from digital TVs to in-car entertainment systems are beginning to incorporate Android.

The Lenovo LePad will be the first of a number of mobile internet products, Lenovo has confirmed, to cater for growing demand in China. Normally tried new Lenovo products only to successfully establish in Asia before they are sold internationally.
