Samsung NP-R580-JSB1US is a great notebook. It’s fast, looks good, is well built and has a good array of ports. You can use it to perform mundane office tasks or taxing file encoding tasks alike. The R580 Notebook comes with a 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive rotating at 5400 RPM. This is a large hard drive and should store most everything you want, but it would’ve been nice to have a 7200 RPM drive. The optical drive is a Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive which will help you take advantage of the 720p screen. Blu-Ray is a good benefit if you’re into those discs. For power it comes with a 6-cell Lithium ion battery (4400 mAh), and a 90 W AC adapter. The notebook measures 14.9″ x 10″ x 1.2″ and weighs 5.7 pounds.

The Samsung NP-R580-JSB1US has 15.6-inch wide-screen LED-backlit screen has a native resolution of 1,366×768. The 16:9 aspect ratio and native 720p support makes it excellent for watching widescreen DVDs. The screen is driven by the NVIDIA GeForce 310M with 512 MB of dedicated DDR3 video memory (up to 2267 MB with shared memory). The GPU comes with NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology–helping extend battery life, reducing fan noise, and freeing the CPU for multitasking. Colors look sharp, and the screen brightness was relatively good, though we’ve seen brighter. Viewing angles can get finicky, and it took us some tilting to get maximum resolution for the best sweet spot.

The Core i5 features dual cores capable of four processing threads. 4GB of DDR3 RAM memory (expandable to 8GB), 500GB hard drive (SATA 5400rpm), and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. The NVIDIA GeForce GT 310M graphics card makes the Samsung NP-R580 Notebopok primed for watching movies online, viewing Blu-ray movies on the internal player, and playing 3D games at a very fast frame rate. For networking this notebook comes with 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet on the RJ-45 port for wired connectivity.
