At CES 2010 Sony has announced a refresh of its Vaio W notebooks, ” Sony VAIO W Eco Series ” friendly netbook. The Sony Vaio W Eco Edition netbook is the company’s first Pine Trial netbook to be announced. The “green“ mini-notebook from Sony isn’t just is actually living up to the label with 20% of the lid and palmrest are made with recycled plastic made from CD or DVDs and it ships in a bag, instead of a box, manufactured using 100% recycled PET bottles, has been designed to replace the cardboard box that normal electronic devices come in. Sony VAIO W Eco has also managed to keep mercury out of the LCD, switching to an electronic user manual and several other environmentally friendly features.
The Vaio W Eco series is a pretty Netbook with green a green palmrest and silver chiclet style keyboard the Sugar White netbook we reviewed caught a few eyes. The Sony Vaio W Eco trackpad design, with a geometric pattern that reminds us of a recycle symbol is also adds to the looks. In addition to a responsive mousing surface that didn’t stick after extended use it has two separate mouse buttons. The battery which sticks out of the bottom of the Sony Vaio W Eco mini notebook is rated for up to 7 hours at Maximal brightness and up to 8 hours on default.
On the inside, Sony has replaced the Atom N270 CPU with a new, more energy efficient Intel Atom N450 processor. The netbook has a 10.1 inch LED backlit widescreen (1333×768), a 250 GB hard drive, up to 7 hours of battery life, Microsoft 7, 1.66 Ghz Intel Atom Processor N450, 1GB RAM, and a 250GB hard drive and ships with Windows 7 Starter Edition.
The Sony Vaio W Eco Series is a well equipped machine that provides a green computing experience. The Sony Vaio W Eco series Netbook is available in 3 colors; Berry Pink, Navy Blue and Sugar White. The small device can also be configured with a Verizon Wireless Broadband connection starting at $599.
