Toshiba has launched a new entry level netbook, Toshiba NB250. Toshiba Mini NB 250 is gorgeous to look at, well-equipped, has a nearly full-size keyboard and promises a healthy 8.5 hours of battery life. Toshiba included DDR3 RAM, which is faster than the standard DDR2 RAM that most other netbooks come with.
Toshiba Mini NB250 powered with an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, a 10.1″ TruBrite LED-backlit display at 1,024 x 600 resolution, 1GB of DDR3 RAM memory, a graphics card powered by a Intel GMA 3150, Windows 7 Starter Edition, and a hard-drive that has 250GB of storage capacity.
For connectivity, you get the usual three USB ports, an Ethernet port, a VGA video out, two audio jacks and a memory card slot. You can use SD cards up to 32GB in capacity, which more than suffices. They are a 3-cell battery that can last 4 hours, as well as a 6-cell battery can go up to 8 hours.
The Toshiba NB 250 is fairly light for a netbook of its size. With the standard three-cell battery, it weighs 1.12kg, and measures 263mm wide by 192mm deep. It also has a wedge profile, measuring 25mm at the front edge, and 32mm at the rear end. There are optional models of the battery for you to choose.
In general the Toshiba NB250 performance is netbook like, meaning it is on the slow side but fast enough for general web browsing, productivity and basic Multimedia playback. Unlike previous Intel Atom platforms this new one can handle 720p video in some instances, but its performance isn’t reliable enough to our minds to call it HD capable.
The NB 250 keyboard is unique in that it combines a chic-let and ordinary keyboard which, according to Pallenberg, provides impressive feedback – though some of the keys are an abnormal size. Toshiba also included a multi-touch trackpad. That spoils the netbook appearance ever so slightly, but it’s a relatively small price to pay if you need extra time away from the mains. Toshiba Mini NB250 is already available for purchase online with a starting price of $290.
